Freestanding and slide-in ranges combine a cooktop and one or more oven cavities in a single chassis, which means a single appliance carries two independent heating systems and, on dual-fuel models, both a gas and an electric supply.
These are the subsystems a diagnosis works through. Which one is at fault is determined by measurement on site, not by the symptom alone.
Sealed burners, spark modules, igniter electrodes, safety valves and thermocouples. On gas ranges these are mechanical and report no fault code.
Bake and broil elements or gas oven burner, convection fan, temperature sensor, door latch and gasket.
Relay board, control board, display, and on newer platforms the communication link between them.
Gas surface with electric oven means two supply circuits and two failure domains in one appliance.

Range and rangetop work often involves gas connections and, on ranges over 36 inches, moving a heavy chassis out of a tight cabinet opening. Both are noted in our terms as inherent-risk items.
Have the model and serial number from the rating plate ready, and note when the problem started, whether it is constant or intermittent, and any code on the display. That determines which parts are carried to the visit. Appointments run in a two-hour arrival window and an adult 18 or older needs to be present for the full window.
