Washers concentrate their failures in three places: the drain circuit, the drive and suspension, and the door lock.
The drain pump filter is the first check and clears the fault more often than any part replacement. Coins, hairpins, and underwire lodge in the impeller. Where the filter is clean, the pump itself, the pressure switch that senses water level, or a blocked drain hose is responsible.
Suspension. Shock absorbers and drum bearings wear, and once the drum can move freely the machine cannot balance a load. Shipping bolts left in after installation produce the same symptom in a new unit, which is worth checking before condemning anything.
The door interlock holds until the drum stops and water is out. A machine that finished its cycle but stays locked usually has a failed interlock, but it can also mean the control still reads water in the tub — which points back at the drain circuit rather than the lock.
Inlet valve solenoids, screens at the hose connection, or low house pressure. Compact and stacked units are more sensitive to inlet pressure than full-size machines, and a partly closed shutoff valve behind the machine is a common and easily missed cause.
Door boot seal on front-loaders, the sump hose, or the pump housing. Detergent overuse produces excess suds that push water past seals that are otherwise fine, which is why we ask what and how much you are dosing before opening anything.
Codes point at a subsystem, not a part. A drain fault can be pump, pressure switch, hose, or control. We verify against the circuit rather than replacing on the strength of a code alone.

The drain circuit is where we start, because it is the most common failure and because a machine that cannot drain will also refuse to spin, refuse to unlock, and throw a code that looks like something else. Clearing and testing that circuit resolves a large share of calls in the first visit.
Drum bearing failure is the one repair where we will often advise against proceeding. On most front-loaders the bearing is pressed into the outer tub, and the tub is not sold separately — the repair approaches the cost of the machine. On Miele and ASKO the construction is different and the arithmetic often favours the repair, which is part of why those machines last as long as they do.
Stacked and compact installations bring their own faults. Units racked out of level, stacking kits that have loosened, and vent or drain runs that were compromised to fit a closet produce symptoms that look mechanical and are not.

Every one to three months depending on use. It takes two minutes and prevents the most common failure we are called out for. Front-loaders put it behind a small door at the bottom front of the machine.
Residual moisture and detergent film in the door boot and drum. Leaving the door ajar between loads, running a hot maintenance cycle monthly, and reducing detergent dose resolves it. It is a maintenance issue rather than a fault.
On Miele and ASKO frequently yes — the construction allows it and the machines have long service lives ahead of them. On most other front-loaders the tub assembly is the part, and the repair costs close to a new machine. We give you the number before any work starts.
Yes, including unstacking and restacking. On several premium sets the stacking kit and the unit's own levelling must both be correct or the machine will vibrate regardless of what is repaired.
Fifteen to twenty years for Miele and ASKO, ten to twelve for most others. The gap is largely construction — bearing design, drum support, and whether parts are individually serviceable.
