Ventilation Hood Repair

Ventilation Hood Repair

A hood is a blower, a control, a light circuit and a duct. Complaints usually come down to airflow, noise, controls or lighting — and airflow problems are as often about the duct and the filters as about the motor.

What the appliance is made of

These are the subsystems a diagnosis works through. Which one is at fault is determined by measurement on site, not by the symptom alone.

Blower

Internal, inline or remote-mounted motor. Remote blowers move the noise and the failure point outside the kitchen, which changes where diagnosis starts.

Controls

Membrane or touch panel, speed control, and on integrated systems the link to a cooktop that commands the hood.

Lighting

Halogen, LED strips or LED modules with their own drivers.

Filters and duct

Baffle or mesh filters, damper, and duct run length and bends — the single most common cause of poor capture that is not a fault at all.

Brands we service

Vent-A-Hood · Miele · Zephyr · Best · Faber · Elica · Wolf · Thermador

Worth knowing

Hood work is overhead and often above a live cooking surface. Access varies enormously between a wall-mount chimney hood and an insert built into custom millwork.

Before you call

Have the model and serial number from the rating plate ready, and note when the problem started, whether it is constant or intermittent, and any code on the display. That determines which parts are carried to the visit. Appointments run in a two-hour arrival window and an adult 18 or older needs to be present for the full window.
