Out-of-warranty Thermador service across the Bay Area and Greater Sacramento. Professional ranges and rangetops, wall ovens, Star Sapphire dishwashers, Freedom refrigeration and cooktops. OEM parts.
Thermador spans professional cooking and built-in refrigeration, and the two halves fail in quite different ways.
The star-shaped burner geometry spreads flame differently from a conventional ring, and a partly blocked port shows up as an uneven flame rather than no flame. Electrodes, burner caps seated wrong after cleaning, and blocked ports account for most ignition calls.
Igniter current draw on gas models — an igniter that glows can still be below the threshold that opens the safety valve. On electric and dual-fuel, the element and relay board. Sensor drift explains most modest consistent errors and is inexpensive to correct.
Column refrigeration fails at the evaporator fan and defrost circuit long before the sealed system. One column warm while another works normally points at that column specifically, since they run independently.
Filter and spray arms first, then wash pump and heating. These units run quiet cycles that are less tolerant of scale than more aggressive machines, and hard water in this region shows up on them early.
Overtemperature shutdown from a blocked cooling fan intake is more common than a failed power module. A single dead zone points at that zone's module; all zones cutting out together points at cooling or supply.
We verify supply voltage and harness continuity before condemning a board. Intermittent connections present exactly like a failing control at a fraction of the cost, and boards are the most over-replaced part in this category.
Out-of-warranty repair with OEM parts across the range.
Thermador cooking equipment rewards measurement over pattern matching. Igniter current draw, element and sensor resistance, and actual cavity temperature against setpoint decide most oven calls in the first twenty minutes, and the igniter measurement in particular overturns a lot of assumptions.
Freedom refrigeration is diagnosed the way any built-in column is: cabinet and evaporator temperatures, defrost behaviour, condenser temperature rise, and the control's own sensor readings. Those separate an airflow problem from a defrost problem from a genuine sealed-system fault, and the three repairs differ enormously in cost.
We service Thermador out of warranty only. Factory authorization sits with another network, which affects warranty claim handling and nothing about the work — OEM parts, manufacturer procedures, and EPA 608 certification for sealed-system refrigeration all apply.
Because we could not verify the circulating lists against manufacturer sources. We had published a page and removed it rather than leave unverified information up. For brands where we hold authorization and have documented codes — Miele, Viking, Sub-Zero, Wolf and others — we do publish them.
Factory authorization sits with a different service network. That governs warranty claims, not who can perform the repair competently.
No. The star geometry spreads flame across a wider pattern than a ring burner, but it should be even. Uneven flame usually means partly blocked ports or a cap not seated correctly after cleaning, and both are quick to correct.
Yes. The most common fault is overtemperature shutdown from a blocked cooling intake rather than a failed power module, and that distinction is worth checking before any part is ordered.
Fifteen to twenty years for the cabinet, with fans, boards and defrost components as the wear items. That is why repair usually beats replacement — the expensive part stays sound.
